"Three different modes of front/rear torque distribution are selected by the system: Normal, Sports, and Snow, (for slippery surfaces)"

Wonder what the torque split ratios for these modes are?

Seems like a navigation system is finally available for the 6.

I like the bodywork, especially the blacked-out headlamps. I hope that this acts as a halo car that draws more buyers to the brand and to the 6. I think the 6 has been one of the most under-rated cars in terms of sales.

I think the car would look hot in black!

That's an RX-8 with a bunch of Mazdaspeed parts on it, not a fully developed separate model like the Mazdaspeed Protege, Mazdaspeed Miata, or Mazdaspeed 6.

Right, and it is a Mazdaspeed RX-8, as in it's an RX-8 which has had a lot of Mazdaspeed parts added to it. But Mazda does not produce the car in that form at any factory, as was the case with the Mazdaspeed Protege, as is the case with the Mazdaspeed Miata, and as will be the case with the Mazdaspeed 6.

Slight update: it's been reported by Autoweek.

Mazda North American Operations will broaden its lineup of high-performance models next summer with the launch of the MazdaSpeed6.

The special version of the Mazda6 will be powered by a 274-hp turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder engine. It will be sold only with all-wheel drive, limited-slip differential and a six-speed manual transmission.

The upgraded suspension features increased spring rates, stiffer shocks and thicker stabilizer bars. Antilock brakes and dynamic stability control will be standard.

The car's appearance also will change. It will have different front and rear fascias, new rocker panels and 18-inch wheels.

The interior will have sport bucket seats, drilled alloy foot pedals, automatic climate control and a 200-watt Bose CD stereo.

Mazda expects to sell between 3,000 and 5,000 units by summer 2006 at a sticker price less than $30,000.

While the Mazda6 lineup includes a five-door hatchback and wagon, the MazdaSpeed6 will come only as a sedan.

Mazda has released sporty versions of the Miata and the outgoing Protege. The Mazda3 has since replaced the Protege. Company executives are uncertain about plans for a MazdaSpeed3.
