Default Autoweek reporting on E60 5-series and the 3.0L Twin Turbo engine

link to autoweek

but they have some information wrong. for example the 0-60 time of the current M5 is not 5.5second. It is 4.9second. Hell my S52 M Coupe will do 60 in 5.1seconds! (so the factory says

They only have artist drawings of the 5 and they are not really worth posting here

I think i read BMW themsevles talking about this engine. Anyways, i cant begin to imagine the tuning potential of that engine. Can you? It's a iron block(assuming there), factory reinforced inline-6 from bmw. da-damn.

Yes it will be pretty damn good! It'll be just like the S4.

It would be interesting. But I wonder how much boost is being used in stock form to get 380hp. That engine has n/a output of 225hp.

ESS with 7psi boost makes 335hp in that engine. So if BMW boosts say? 10~12psi they could make 380hp but that's bit too much for my comfort.

but yes hopefully they will do it right. lowering stockcompression, building up the bottom end, etc.

A nice powertrain aside, if the styling continues to be uglified, you can count me out.

that artist rendering doesn't look too bad, I'm much more excited about this 5 series than that horrible looking Z4........:barf:

thats the good thing about factory turbo engines, they usually have a lower compression ration, the bottem ends are built up and all that good stuff. So i would imagine that it wouldnt be that hard to do the standard mods to turbo engines, such as free-flow cats, exhuast, ecu's and see pretty damn high boost in power.

This sounds like a good engine and a great car.

As for Bangle's designs...they are starting to grow on me. What was once ugly is now bearable.
