Did I start a riot here? American Honda, in some press material or another, did allude that the 200 hp Type-S was their "Prelude replacement." Maybe that's what Car & Driver paraphrased it as, but basically Honda felt that either the Accord Coupe or the RSX Type S would attract Prelude-type owners, who are probably considered to be fairly Honda-loyal anyway.
4th and 5th gen Prelude was indeed special, but its platform was not derived from the Civic? It's not a long-wheelbase Civic-based platform?
Anyway, the RSX is getting a lesson in ... Civics for 2005. Congrats, I guess.

I find it interesting considering they have the same bolt pattern as the accord, share the same engine bay, and suspension.

The Prelude was close enough to being an Accord coupe, for reasons that Paul stated above.
