Bugatti Veyron launch delayed again
Volkswagen has postponed the launch of the super sports car Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron until next year amid technical problems, the news magazine Der Spiegel reports.
The launch of the 1001 hp car with a top speed of more than 400 km/h has been delayed several time because of aerodynamic and handling problems.
The market introduction of the super car selling at $1.2 million is now scheduled for the second quarter of next year.
Bugatti managing director Thomas Bscher was quoted as saying that in the "steps of Ettore Bugatti, the Veyron too will be brought to technical perfection. This takes time. And we will take the time we need".

I wonder if they'll ever get this thing to market. It was originally planned as a 2003 model.

Well, damn. Guess I'll settle for the Murcielago.

Seriously though, I do hope they get the car to market. It is such a beautiful form.

Just shows how difficult it is to get much more than 240ish mph out of a street car. But I know it'll happen, probably sooner than we expect.
The McLaren is still an amazing achievement in it's own right, a product of unique circumstances.
Even when the Veyron eclipses the McLaren's vMax, the McLaren will still hold a tremendous amount of appeal; it's one of the finest British "supercar" designs ever IMO. Peter Stevens, Gordon Murray et al. are true masters.

Exactly. I saw a photo of the Veyron - I think it was at Geneva - in a rich burgundy metallic and a sandstone interior.

The McLaren F1 is an actual race car for the street, low weight, etcetera. The class rules for sports car racing have since changed (with prototypes, rather than homologated "street" cars, in the top class) such that a similar car would no longer be built. There are the Saleen S7 and Mosler MT900 but they're not as powerful.
As for the Veyron, it's a whole lot heavier and while it obviously takes a whole lot of engineering to make any roadgoing vehicle go that fast, it still ain't a race car. Also, one has to wonder if anyone will ever drive the damn things or if they all become instant collector's items.
