Okay everytime I expect the Accord to return to a pure-Japanese looking style, it doesn't. I feel like it is more and more Americanized. Plus, the 2 door coupe looks so much like the current Acura CL, oh my god........

However, the V6 version is pretty amazing, 5 speed auto and 6 speed manual, 240hp and 212lb-ft of torque......that's good.

Still need to wait to see the actual thing personally.

yianni64 07-28-2002 08:19 PM

Might as well post this amazing interior pic

http://www.thecarconnection.com/imag...5905_image.jpg

mentaloriental 07-28-2002 08:20 PM

The coupe looks great, looks like a bigger RSX, so if you don't like the RSX, it might not be a good thing. However, the big news is the interior, Honda is clearly aiming at the Passat for content and material quality. Great job Honda!

yianni64 07-28-2002 08:24 PM

What can I say really? Im very impressed with the overall package.

The sedand and coupe only share similar looking front end, but everything else is different. I think thatll help the coupe be more attractive to the younger buyer.

yianni64 07-28-2002 08:25 PM

I need to make this post so my count is 666, so dont think im trying to whore here.

Anyways, from what I'm reading, the Accord is going to kick some serious ass. I bet itll be on the cover of a few mags next month.

Also, that gold color makes the car look bad.

Cyclonus 07-28-2002 08:44 PM

Wow, I'm quite impressed with that angle on the coupe. I see a little 6th gen Accord cpe, RSX, and CL.

The front end is looking pretty nice.

Speaking from an unbiased point of view, 6th gen coupe reigns supreme over 7th gen coupe...minus what's under the hood. :D

kazi 07-28-2002 10:15 PM

I don't care what some of the naysayer say. The sedan is definitely took the luxury route in looks, and I like it a lot. The interior is the best in its class plus one more up to even better than the Acura TL level. Look at the instrument panel. Looks VERY Mercedes like. If you take away the exterior factor, everything is right on the money in this class, and there's not doubt it will sell 450,000+ next year.

zishan 07-28-2002 10:29 PM

interior is kick azz...everything else got kicked in the azz

95AccordV6 07-28-2002 10:29 PM

There is no doubt this new Accord will sell very very good. As a super Accord fan, I wish it will beat Camry and Taurus again. And the instrument panel looks amazing.......

98CoupeV6 07-29-2002 04:55 AM

Wow, that is beautiful. Just 2 things.

1) Why does the tranny appear to be a 4 speed? I see D, D3, 2, 1 but no D5 or D4. Are they 4 speeds on 4 bangers?

2) I'm having trouble understanding the upper grill on the coupeand the lower grill on the sedan. The lower on the sedan is bland and uninspiring, and the upper screams Chrysler on the coupe...I love big air inlets in the nose if you're gonna have one at all, like the 6th gen Accord.

I'm wondering why anyone would buy an Altima at this point.

BTW, the wheels on the coupe are freaking beautiful. Next spring I'll see if this thing with the 6 speed is worthy of my attention or if I should jump up to the G35 Coupe, because I am really itchy for a new car. My RSX is just too small for me. I'm thinking of a 2 year lease, actually...I am about around the value of my car with what I owe, so I'd be fine if I did want to sell it.

That car is beautiful, especially the interior...Nissan just took it up the ass.

98CoupeV6 07-29-2002 05:01 AM

and for those who don't know, confirmed statistics are 240 HP/220 LB-FT of torque with the double wishbones remaining.

Dont worry dude, its a 5-speed, but imagine if it had a few extra gears to row through. A lot of new cars just have a single forward Drive selection.

And yeah, sucks to be Nissan. I think they put enough HP in the thing out of nowhere to where Honda just had to do something about it.

mentaloriental 07-29-2002 05:29 AM

I had no doubt that Honda was not going to let Nissan steal its pie. If Honda knows how to do anything it's building engines. Imagine what you can do with that 2.4 though! Slap a I/H/E, tweak the ECU and you've got a 240 hp monster just waiting to be uncorked!

the coupe can look good with some springs, wheels, and a nice dark color...the sedan on the otherhand needs more help just bolt ons. those tailights are aweful, and i already had a nightmare about what APC is gonna do with altezzas for them. *shivers*

jaje 07-29-2002 07:46 AM

the altima definitely doesn't suck...it's a good car...nissan had the guts to raise the performance bar to give us exciting family sedans...it's only drawback is its quality which isn't up to par in this segment...however nissan can resolve this problem

98CoupeV6 07-29-2002 08:04 AM

Adrock, those pictures are all from Honda. More pics can be found at hondanews.com but they are small unless you have press credentials. Thanks for posting those adrock, I was about to do the same.

Joel, you have to admit that the only thing Nissan had going for it was edgy design and big power. I've driven the Alty quite a lot, so I know...the quality sucks. The interior sucks. This new Accord is like a Camry Altima fusion, only alot better.

Also - The gas door is quite far back and kind of breaks up the design

And why no chrome trim around the windows in the coupe??

Badass. I found this chopped up one:

http://home.earthlink.net/~muckymuck...ccordCoupe.jpg

The first picture of the couple left me at , but the black one is simply fk'ing . Look at the interior picture with the navi. Notice the key is much larger and looks like the keyless entry buttons are on the keys. Very very nice feature and upscale. I've always wanted that feature that VW had. And look, finally heated leather seats.

Cyclonus 07-29-2002 08:46 AM

Wow, I'm am spent. Congratulations to Honda again for creating a masterpiece. This Accord is definitely a winner.

The interior is gorgeous, the manual shifter is :yumyum:, the steering wheel is  (it looks like the coupe gets a 3 spoke :eh: ).

Honda really got what they wanted...aiming for an S2000ish Accord. Many props to Honda.

Those chopped pix are

Hey, I didn't notice that.

The steering wheel actually has been the ugliest thing about the interior imo so far. Hopefully the three spoke will look better. (I mean, it isn't just me right? The thing looks weird with the buttons on the upper two spokes and the leather wrap that doesn't totally fit right.

well... whatever. :joshers: Our little carmaker's growing up.

Trust me. You haven't seen an ugly steering wheel until you sit in a Saturn like mine. :ugh: That 4spk in the 03 Accord is nice for a sedan.

ah.... have you seen the passat sales lately, guess not, there are none.

98CoupeV6 07-29-2002 09:15 AM

Actually the Passat is what Honda designers had in mind for the most part, because they wanted alot of emotion. I wouldn't call 100k sales nothing.

Bay Accord 07-29-2002 12:45 PM

"During the press briefing, Baker made claims that the Accord V6 powerplant would make us forget about the new Nissan Altima's 3.5-liter V6. We beg to differ, having driven our long-term Altima 3.5 SE to the Accord launch. In contrast to the Nissan, the Honda upshifts and downshifts more fluidly and with less kick, but when the Accord's engine is revved, it fails to delight with any eagerness or urgency to rush to speed the way the Altima's V6 does. The Altima is a thrill ride when the go-pedal is mashed; the Accord is not. This, we're certain, is sure to please traditional Accord buyers, but it's not going to appeal to performance-minded folks."

kazi 07-29-2002 01:01 PM

That edmund's first review is absolutely so subjective. There's no performance data, no sprint times, no back to back comparison.... He even messed up on the brand of tires. Given that the reviewer was not allowed to do an extensive detail review because it was a Honda sponsered event for the press, but the dimbwit was looking for every possible negative thing to complain about.

EX models come with this 16-inch aluminum wheel shod with Michelin Energy all-season tires.

Is it me or does the picture clearly shows a Bridgestone tire?

I'm waiting for a better review with real data about the performance.

98CoupeV6 07-29-2002 01:04 PM

The edmunds review is...cock eyed. It negates everything said by other reviewers and Honda. Either they had a serious biast against Honda or they got some messed up cars.
