whatever.

how many E46 M3 owners do you know? I personally know over a dozen and out of that 10 of them either autox or track their cars aggressively.

The last engine failure was about 4 months ago and the manufacturing date fell in the problem area, which has been addressed by BMW now.

This particular owner was scheduled to go get the fix done but his engine blew before his car was to go in. How do I know? I autoxed with him for the past year and I've known him since 2000.

He also took 2nd place in a borrowed Boxster S in BStock at the Nationals in Kansas. So he drives like the devil and then some.

I was looking more for a why, the mechanical reason. I haven't heard of them having issues.

They just tend to blow up, literally, spilling oil all over the road, creating hazard for other drivers. They are just crappy engine's, just like anything else from the edited racist comment out

However, back to the M3 - there isn't a particular mechanical problem that causes the engine to blow up, the engine has way too many problems for me to list. In fact, it has a whole webpage devoted to it's failtures

The M3 engine is one of the worst engines ever made, and I have no clue how it made it onto the top 10 list. My best guess would be that the editos got paid off by BMW to include it in the list

the connecting rod bearing for the #3 and/or #5 cylinder gets starved for oil under certain conditions. BMW has tracked down the root cause after tearing apart several failed engines and has issued a fix. car produced in late 02 (12/02) and on do not have the same problem.

BMW also replaces the oil pump during the service action and has extended the powertrain warranty to 100K miles
