Default 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Chevy has put some details regarding the Cobalt up on it's site.

Here's some of the text:
Expressive design. Upscale appointments available. Technological advancements. There's a new player in the premium small car world. Its name is Cobalt. Eight distinctly styled coupe and sedan models to choose from. Coming fall 2004.

Refined Details

Available heated leather-appointed seats
Corvette-inspired rear with jewel-like taillamps
Refined interior with comfortable seating for five
Available rich accents like woodgrain or satin nickel

Technological Advancements

Available XM Satellite Radio(1)
Available CD/MP3 player
Driver Information Center
Available steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls
Available Pioneer premium amplified sound system with seven speakers

Dynamic Driving

Three spirited ECOTEC engine choices: 2.2L, 2.4L or 2.0L Supercharged
Three specially tuned suspension options
Four wheel options: from 15" to 18"
Three transmissions available
Available all-speed Traction Control System

I've read on other sites the 2.2 wil be 140hp, the 2.4l will be 170hp, and the 2.0l Supercharged should be 200+.

And the all important pics...

There's more pics but they're all part of a Flash thing so I can't link to the pics. Here's a link to the photo gallery though. http://www.chevrolet.com/cobalt/gallery.htm

I have to say... by these pics it looks like they did a damn good job. The interior seems really VW-ish (in look at least) and I didn't see any Fisher-Price plastics. GM may finally have a good competitor for this market with the engine choices and variety of trims. This is definitely a stylish vehicle.

I like the coupe, I don't know about the sedan though.

From the side the coupe kind of looks like a flattened Mercury Cougar. The sedan clearly shares a lot of panels with the Opel/Vauxhall Astra 5-door hatch but still manages to look a lot uglier.

It looks better as a 5 door then a sedan, IMO. I kind of like the 5 door.

Definitely better than the Cavalier. Slowly but surely, GM is listening and taking notes.

Uh, no. That is only for certain Saturn SUVs.

Actually, it appears they share no panels. While the door designs are similar, focusing in on the mirror area clearly shows they are not the same doors. The Cobalt's is more rounded where as the Astra's is more squarish with a rounded edge. Also, the Cobalt's body crease runs directly with the lower window trim while the Astra's kind of runs into the mirror base. Also, looking at the B-pillars shows the differences -- the Cobalt has a smoth curve while the Astra has a 90 degree angle.

Aren't these vehicles on two totally different platforms anyway?
