actually.. im pretty sure the cobalt is being made to replace the cavalier... probably changing the name because... well.. cavaliers suck.

the current z24 has a 2.4 ecotec, so it looks like the engines are gonna be the same. my cavalier has a 2.2, i dont know if any current ones have the 2.0L, and there is a concept cavalier that is turbo (possibly twin, i cant remember), so maybe thats that sc engine they have

More like can we say Impala/Corvette. I'm not defending them, cause I hate chevy. But I don't like the way people always say that some car is a rip off of another because they look kind of similar. Come on, think about how many different cars there are, there can only be so many different kinds of taillights, lol.

:bzzz: Wrong

As of 2003 there are no more Z24's. It's the LS Sport, and they use the 2.2 Ecotec.

The Z24's from 2000-2002 used the 2.2 liter "2200" I-4 which is not an EcoTec or even EcoTec based.

The 2.4 was found in the older Z24's. That engine is the definition of raucous but puts out decent power.

The new 2.4 on the Cobalt is based off the EcoTec, as is the 2.0. And the concept you speak of is the Solstice. Solstice is being produced for 2005 but will debut with the 2.4 liter 170HP I-4 engine first with the supercharged 2.0 coming later on.

The 2.4 Ecotec I-4 will also be used as a base engine in the next Grand Am while the 3.5 V-6 from the Malibu will be the top engine.

bzzzt

The Solstice, I heard will share the supercharged 2.4 Ecotec with the Colbalt.

And to LT6916

I can assure you that 90% of Cobalt buyer dont give a **** that a roadster, a old 2-door coupe and 2 sports cars make more power with smaller engines.

This car is competing with the Civic, Focus, Sentra, Corolla

and so far on paper(I say ON PAPER) it smokes all of them

I guess what I'm saying is that if you look at a car like the Mazda 3 or something, it's still a compact car (even though its price tops out at almost $22k) but it's designed and marketed as a car that someone would actually want to buy. It's still relatively cheap, small, gets good mileage and is easy to maintain but it's also fun to drive and has lots of features.

The pointless argument about naming was deleted. This thread is about the Cobalt.
