Bought a new helmet.
Bought me one of these:
Until now, I never quite understood why people spent a decent amount of $$$ on a helmet. I just thought a helmet is a helmet. As long as it's got the DOT approved sticker on it, it's all good. I was dead wrong.
So far, compared to the HJC modular helmet I have the Shoei quieter and lighter. It also is less bulky than the HJC modular, and seems more streamlined. Where the HJC modular fits well, the Shoei fits perfectly.
I can't wait for warmer weather to try it out on the road.

Shake n Bake!
I wouldn't mind upgrading this summer. How do you think the Shoei holds up against Arai or Joe Rocket? I have an HJC full face right now and an HJC 3/4 face as a passenger, but I'd like to phase out the 3/4 face..

My only concern about the Shoei is the SNELL rating. From what I've been able to gather, the SNELL standard is more stringent than the DOT standard. The issue is that the SNELL standard is set on a type of impact that doesn't happen often in the real world. The foam is stiffer, and doesn't deform and absorb impact as easily as the DOT only standard.

BUT... that's just me overthinking things. If I crash, I'm sure I won't remember most of it or care that my helmet is SNELL or DOT.

I like the construction of Shoei's, but they don't fit my noggin very well. I've got an Arai Vector that fits perfectly. I've got a bit of an oddly shaped skull so I had trouble finding a good fit -- Arai makes 3 different helmet shapes, and 1 of them fortunately fit me.
I figure the helmet is the most important piece of gear I own, so I might as well spend the most on it. I think my Arai came to $408 after tax.

Looks like an RF1000? If so, that's what I have(different color). RF1000s are the only helmet I will get because its what fits me. Sure I can look at other helmets; cheap and expensive ones but why sacrifice comfort and proper fit for the sake of a buck or looks? Anyway, great buy!
