i have tried finding the answer but i cant seem to:
is it legal to go without insurance on a motorcycle [in washington state]? Someone told me that you dont need insurance on bikes here.. and considering my insurance is about to drop me on my civic (i think that after my 6th speeding ticket i finally learned my lesson ) and im about to buy a bike for summer..

thanks for the help

you don't require to have insurance for bike in washington state. I live in Washington and I have a bike, you don't need to show proof of insurance to the police when you got pulled over.

Thats cause you New Jerseians dont know how to frigging drive. Also your roads are ineffecient with the stinking jughandles. They need to raise your insurance more keep more of you off the road. Worst state drivers in tri-state area and dam east coast. But best for fake I.D.s for the kids lol paper lamented (joke)

NJ bike insurance is not bad... it depends on your age and cc size sportbike.... for full insurance with "upper limits", i paid like 8xx/year and i'm 28 on an 03 r6...

Some states are less expensive, but some states are a lot more... even if insurance isn't mandatory, at least get liability... Hopefully you won't need it, but still.

Same thing for helmets.... some states don't require, so people don't wear them, which has to be one of the stupidest things ever to me, but the helmet vs. no helmet is a never-ending battle...

What type of insurance covers theft? The only thing i am worried about with owning a bike is someone stealing it while im at work or friends or whatever -- it seems like bikes are a very easy target for theft, or am i wrong on this?

Thanks again guys.

I believe it's comprehensive. I'm thinking about dropping collision on my R1, and just keep the comprehensive and liability. Knowing my luck, if i dropped the comprehensive, it would get stolen the next day. 600 bucks a year, which is what i pay, is pretty expensive for motorcycle insurance, in my opinion. I remeber i only paid about 100 bucks a year for insurance, for minimum coverage, on some of my first bikes.
