I was browsing through the owners manual for my '03 Odyssey, and in several places are stern warnings about using only Genuine Honda fluids such as brake or tranny fluid. I was frightenend by the threat of system corrosion and catastrophic failures .

Are these warnings legitimate or is it simply a way to ensure the money goes from my hand directly into Honda's pocket??

Try it and find out for yourself like all the people who have blown their automatic transmissions in Accord/TL/CL/Odyssey by getting them flushed (big no no) and then using non-Honda ATF.

Not to hijack my own thread or anything, but you say flushing the tranny is a no no? Just a drain and refill ok? (I wasn't considering a flush, just gleaning information).

So.....Looking for more feedback on the Genuine Honda liquids......

I'm for a while with Hondas (civic and Accord) and I know for shure that
genuine fluids are a must for automatic transmission and steering system.
A local honda-dealer parts guy told me that for a cooling system I can use
any brand but you should check a color match (green to green, red to red, or
any color compatible)

And no flushes for tranny, just refill.

Since this in the SUV section, I'll add the rear diff fluid is Honda only Dual Pump fluid also. Although I did find that out here a couple years ago.
