Default ((((((((((oil leak))))))))))

My trusty and reliable 1995 Honda Odyessey has given me cause for alarm by leaving drippings under the engine bay.

On inspection, the oil seems to be coming from no where. Knowing this is impossible, I searched and alas a site in the middle of the timing belt cover looked soiled.

A quick search and stories of a "cam balancer seal" or "front balance shaft oil plug" reveals a history. Some mention a Recall went out?

Is it a reasonable asumption that this is my problem and info. on a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

senna

Well if the timing cover is wet the only thing to do is to start taking it apart. There is a cam, crank and a balancer seal beind there. There is also an oring for the rear balancer assly that could leak. You really won't know till you get in there.

Yes I really won't know the location of said "oil leak" untill removing the plastic upper timing cover. I suspect the front balance shaft seal/o-ring.

Hoping someone has knowledge of a similiar problem and can suggest whether to buy the part and rip into this area. The Do's and Dont's if you will? Will contact Honda tomorrow to see if a recall existed?

Thanks for the replys!

talk to the accord people, they should be able to help you out as the engines from the 94-02 accords were very similar and from the same engine family

Yeah, that's the same engine as the 94-97 accord owners have.

That recall has expired. It has a time limit on it and it passed about 2 years ago.

Read page 4 of the attachment. under what to do it says until January of 2003.
