Default 2002 odyssey EXL tranny code

Okay, so my wife comes to me last night and asks me if driving in D3 at 80 MPH would hurt anything After a few choice words I settle down and conclude that it probably would'nt hurt if it was'nt for too long. Then she says it was for about 25 minute ride to her moms. Then I get scared (and mad again) and walk out to take the van for a spin and it's drives fine, no crazy shifts or anything. I check the tranny fluid and it seems a little burnt but okay for the most part. So I tell her to take it first thing in the morning to get the tranny fluid changed at a local reputable (or so I thought they knew their shit) shop because I wanted it done ASAP. She calls me and tells me that they told her they could not change it because it was not time yet. So I get on the phone with the guy and explain to him the situation and explain to him that the owners manual states to change it at 30k and we have 29k on the van anyway so just to change it. he still would'nt change it asked that I take it to the dealer because he did'nt want to be responsible. I did'nt have time to argue so I hung up. Well, I get home and my wife tells me the CEL is on. So, I bust out my code reader and I'm getting a P0730 which according to what I found is an incorrect gear ratio code. So, I'm thinking that the code may have been there since my wife drove the van in D3, so I reset the ECU and now the code is gone. Should I worry? I'm just going to change the fluid myself this weekend just to be safe. Any tips on changing the tranny fluid? Thanks fellas.

Not good. I get that code when tranny's are slipping and need replacement but maybe your case is different. I would try having a honda dealer drain and fill it with Honda atf and then moniter it. If it slips take it in for a transmission and forget to mention what the wife did, hehe

If what he said is true, it might be a bigger problem, is the car still under warantee? If so, I'd have the dealer take a look at it. I have heard that there are recall's on Ody/Accord transmissions, it affects 2002-2004 Ody's....

It will qualify for the extension. I did ody.'s once in a while when I worked for Honda too. No big deal.

No prob! Let us know how it goes. You need not mention how your wife drove it... I'm sure they will know why the tranny went, most likely if the tranny is shot, they will replace it with a remanufactured Honda tranny.

I want to take our 2004 Ody in for the service, but need to schedule to get a loaner (if they do that at our dealership)
