Default Engine light on for Legend

I have a 95 Legend and my engine light comes on after about five minutes of driving. I have checked all fluids and I have done all regular maintainence. Could this be a serious problem, or how reliable is this light? I have heard others say that it comes on and means nothing. Does it mean something?

the check engine light is very reliable, and it only comes on when there is a problem.

Check engine lights are more often than not emissions related. A lot of times it is a bad sensor but it could also be another part actually going out tripping the sensor. It is usually found that an oxygen sensor has gone bad and run anywhere from $60-$120 for the part and are easily replaced yourself. Good luck.

I would get it checked out because the people saying it means nothing are idiots. They are the ones who have busted ass cars and they can't figure out why. It is most likely a faulty sensor or a bad condition tripping a sensor off.

when the check engine light comes on, there is a problem and it can be solved by looking under the carpet located at the foot of the passenger side. pull the carpet back and you will see a "screen" with a blinking light. count the number of constant blinks (some times there are multiple codes). then check here for the corresponding number. the O2 sensor can be bought at autozone for approx. $25, and changed out with a tool supplied by them ($15 renters fee, returnable on return of tool). took me 20 min tops to do both front and back. cheap and simple and gas mileage will surely improve. good luck.

You sound very convincing so how long after the problem has been attempted to be fixed does the check engine light stay on?

it goes off once you change out the sensors and reset the ecu. all you have to do is remove the alt. fuse for 30 seconds. or disconnect the positive battery terminal for 30 seconds

Note:1993 Legend equipped with a Factory Bose Stereo, I have read, will require you to input the security code number from the small credit card that was given to the original owner.
MY PROBLEM: My Bose display is very dim, and I am unsure if I will be able to see the prompts to input the code.
Thanks for the info. I will look under my carpet for the screen with the flashing light, and look up my codes!
