Default 1st gear trouble

I just bought a used 92 integra gs. my clutch is goin and it has140k miles on the motor tranny and chasis. a couple of days ago my car had trouble shiftin into first. i would be completely stopped and pressed the clutch to the floor but it kept resistin 1st gear. i could put it into 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th but it wouldnt get to first. is this a sign that i need a new tranny or is their a temporary solution i can do.

it could be two things...the synchro mesh that helps your stick shift smoothly, which in any case you would need to replace it (usually the second gear sychro is the one to go first because of the fast gear transitions that people do when they wanna go faster), or it could be normal. When my car doesnt go into first right away, i dont force it (could screw the synchros up), i just take my foot off the clutch then put it back on, and it goes into first just fine. Also happens when i'm gearing into reverse. If you can't shift it into first from a stop after two tries on the clutch, then itz ur synchro.

I had a 91 ls teg and when my race clutch started to go my car would not go into 1st or reverse without force. I put a new clutch in it and the problem went away. So I am like 99 percent sure its your clutch.

I'd say it's definitely the clutch. I have had similar probs in the past as my clutch would need replacing.

TO check your clutch, put it in gear, leave the parking brake on and let out the clutch graduallly. It starts to stall, your clutch is likely okay. It may just need the tranny fluid changed, or it could just be cold and shifting stiff

ummm 1st and Reverse dont have synchros....Thats why you cant get into them while at while moving at considerable speeds. Thats why they're so hard to get into sometimes.

Check fluid, check your clutch cable, and see how that goes.

Ummm I bet 1st has a synchro & reverse doesn't.

On my '95 & on almost every car I've ever owned, 1st has a synchro but reverse doesn't. The synchro is what blocks you out of gear. Since reverse doesn't have a synchro it grinds if you try with the clutch engaged.

My '92 LS 180K miles does this also going into 1st or reverse. Usually at the beginning of the day/drive then goes away. I just pick a different gear, let out the clutch a little, then go back to first/reverse.

Happened before and after a clutch replacement.
