I tightened the gas cap so thats not it. I am not sure if it's the O2 sensor. But my car has 98k on it. When do they need changed? HOm much are they? If you don't change it what could happen?

Find the jumper harness underneath the passenger side dash, by the door. You might have to reach a bit for it, it has a green rubber cover on it. Pull off that cover to expose the blue harness. Take a paperclip or short piece of wire and plug it into the back of the harness, connecting the two terminals with the wires going into the other side. Turn your car to on. Count the number of flashes. Each long flash counts as 10, and short flashes count as one. For example long-long-short is a code of 21.

I wouldnt sweat it, I got a 99 w/ 40k & the engine light came on & i called acura & they said it comes on every 30k miles...That may be the case...may not...depends, But they just reset it for me.

 

You are talking about the maintenence required light. We are talking about the MIL, malfunction indicator lamp, also reffered to as the check engine light.

I appreciate the help. I will find the code tomorrow. Hopefully it's nothing major. It seems I am always throwing money into fixing this car and not for enjoyment.

 

I did that and the check engine light flashes 7 times slow then 1 fast and then after that it flashes 7 times slow 3 times fast in a cycle. What problem code is that? I have a 97 GSR can anyone tell me what that is?

 

according to that website he cant have 7 long flashes...I would guess its 6 long flashes but you may want to count them again.

if it is 6 long flashes and 1 short/ 6 long 3 short then its your primary and secondary oxy sensors.


I remember once I was in a high speed turn and the check engine light came on with the limiter kicking in....went from 7.5k rpm to 5k rpm in a heavy turn...lol sucked. =)
