Rolling back mileage + *pics*
I don't put any judgement on anyones actions. If you think it is immoral then you yourself as a good person don't do it. That is great. It would make me a less of a person, but I know there are others out there who do this. Don't single me out. I'm just asking what I'm sure a lot of people want to know about.
The only thing is I did not keep documentation of the new engine that went into it. Also, I am not talkin about rolling it back to 50k miles. More around 108k miles, which would equal out to around 10k miles a year average. Just decent mileage for my year.
If you think about it...It is kind of the same thing as a car lot selling you a car without telling you that it has been into a wreck. (That is why they have CarFax Reports) I'm sure if you've had bodywork done to your car that isn't noticable now, that your not going to tell the carlot your trading it into or whoever is buying your car about it. Why? because it would bring the value down and you would lose $$$. So I think this is resonable considering the new engine and me wanting to make a couple extra $k's on it. It's just business.

WTF :madfawk: man i know someone having the problems u are trying to do and everytime he gets pull over the police check everything on the car u know they chck under the hood looking for stolen engine etc.. funny thing is every single document he has shows a diff number n miles is so confizing and the worst part is suypposely the body has 128k miles and the engi around 80k but then again now his car smokes like crazy and he has been looking for the guy who sold it to him to break his neck lucky the guy last time i heard left the country heh so illigal
put yourself in the potential buyers shoes. If you were set on a car and thought that the BODY and ENGINE had 50k on it, and come to find out it had 128k, I'd sue your ass. Thats flat out fraud.
I'm not going to get into the whole immoral issue, becuase you already know its wrong, and you are willfully going against what you know is wrong in order to decieve the potential buyer. Shame on you. Kharma is a bitch.

I completely respect everyones opinion on this, I know it is wrong but I feel in this situation with the engine only having 50k miles on it and the odometer reading 128k that it would be okay to roll it back to 108k miles. Considering I don't have ANY proof of a new engine put in it. I believe 108k miles is not COMPLETELY untruthful, and whoever got my car would be lucky because it is in emaculate condition from the inside out. I'm basically just lookin to get more $$ out of it, not short the buyer. Because I know for a fact the buyer would be happy with my car showing 108k miles on it. Thanks 95civicEX_h22 for the suggestion, even though I know you don't approve I apprciate you actually answering my question.

...And so just because someone else does it you feel that it is alright for you? Did your parents teach you anything about right from wrong? No matter how you look at it....IT IS WRONG AND IMMORAL!!
Don't single me out. I'm just asking what I'm sure a lot of people want to know about.
Wanting to know how to do it is VERY different from knowing and then taking action to do it. YOU are being singled out simply because your NOT using common sense to understand what could happen to you in the event your caught (or don't bother to put yourself in someone elses shoes and ask yourself how you would feel if it were you getting duped).
The only thing is I did not keep documentation of the new engine that went into it.
How do we know then (or anyone else for that matter) that the motor is newer?? Without documentation to back-up your claim, it may be just another deception.

Whether it is 108K or 50K....does not matter. FRAUD is FRAUD!

Just because a car lot does it doesn't make it right for you!

Lets put it this way........if your caught the police will just have to do there thing too (in your words "its just business"). Its a$$holes like you that make the buyer check out everything BEFORE buying! What you dont seem to realize is that FRAUD costs all of us $$$ (take a look at the costs of buying things and much of it has these costs folded into the price of the product).
Honesty is the best policy!!

I've gotten the point that it is wrong OK lol, I just want info on it if someone has done it. Nothing else. Sheesh! I didn't want this thread to get out of hand, but I figured it would. At least it is a new topic no one has really discussed and it is good to talk about this. ALSO I HAVE NOT DONE THIS, I just wanted info on it. It was just a question that popped in my mind that I thought hasn't been discussed on the forums. I am not an a**hole or a bad person, actually i'm very well educated and extremely nice when it comes to helping others.
^ The fact that you are considering rolling back your odometer precludes any valid assertion pertaining to your personality- which is irrelevant when dealing with the issue of law.
The law is very clear on vehicle mileage fraud, particularly in California. Tamper with the odo in any way, and attempt to transfer the title to anyone, the car is impounded and the owner is arrested pending prosecution for fraud.
While your state may not track vehicle mileage with the zeal of California's DMV, you are opening yourself up to tremendous legal vulnerability, both criminal and civil.
No one here has told you how to to do it, or admitted to doing it. That should send you a clear message about the implications of rolling back an odo AT ALL.
I sincerely hope you reconsider your position. Perhaps you need to be sued for the concept to sink in.

I tampered with an odo once... but it was because I bought a cluster w/tach and matched it to the original miles on the car... that I still have, btw, and I still have the original gauge cluster.
If it is for any purposes other than that, I'd have to give a big  to messing with the odo...

YES!!! Exactly my point, I should have reset the odometer to read 50k miles when I put the new engine it in!!!! Does that kinda clears things up? I'm just reseting the odometer to read the correct miles on the engine. Or am I still wrong???

No, you shouldn't have reset it to 50k with the new engine. Why? The odometer does NOT measure the engine milage, it measures the CHASSIS (body) milage. The odo is there to give the exact milage of that chassis to prevent people like you from ripping them off. Just because you replace the engine doesn't mean the car is magically new again, as everything else in the car is still 128k miles old.
If I bought your car then discovered it was rolled back, you better believe I'd report you for fraud. Carfax makes it easier then ever to tell.:slap:
Some lock or delete this thread. This is just about as stupid as the "I'm locked out, how do I break into a (car name)?" threads.
