My girlfriend's brother bought a cheap knock of CAI with no bypass valve. When the first rain hit here in the Bay Area, he went through a shallow puddle and hydrolocked his Del Sol. After about 2k after he got his car running again..So yes IMO I suggest you get a bypass valve. I think there like $39 or somewhere like that, but worth it not having to spend a bunch of money fixing a hydrolocked motor.
