those chips you see on ebay with "mugen" programs will make you fun rich and may make you lose power. its best to get a chip custom burned for your application with the mods you have. a good way to add 30 hp would be nitrous.

the only chips that add 30 hoses are vw chips but other then that dont put your wad into one of the generic brands becuase they just pump more fuel with no extra air so it wont do anything good for you.

not all VW's, vw's/audi's 1.8 turbo chips can add up to 50hp, and 50 ft lbs.

personally stick to the stock chip unless you have some serious $$ invested in engine upgrades!. chips usually give about 5hp at the crank, like .25 to the wheels, you will hardly notice a difference!!> Save your money and buy some CTR cams instead, you wont be dissapointed!

you say that like i said all of them do give that much. all i know is that there is some chip maker called apt (audi performance tuning) that comes out of huntsville in north alabama and they were at the track one night and this guy was driving an audi quatro and ran a 11.8 quater with just a chip.

in my opinion chips are useless unless you have a lot of mods... why woudnt Honda let their cars perform as well as they are capable of by limiting their ECUs??? Because its unsafe to the engine to do so. Just my 0.02

Those Audi and VW chips add so much HP because the factory electronic control module manages the amount of turbo boost pressure, fuel, ignition, and other parameters that our normally aspirated Honda motors do not have. Comparing the Audi/VW turbo upgrade chips with a normally aspirated application is pointless.

Audi Quattro as in S4? Because the same 1.8L 20V isn't going to get a heavy A4 or TT that kind of quarter mile time. Actually, I highly doubt just a chip will get the S4 that type of quarter mile time.

its nothing you have to believe. infact you dont have to believe but just dont put your money against one with a chip unless you are planning to lose. these cars are one car that get my respect in that way of being able to add one thing that might cost 600 dollars and gain that much power. I'm not an audi or vw freak so i dont know exactly what model all i know is that the guy i talked to said that it was a quatro. and his buddy in a 1.8t vw golf had a chip also and was turning consistent 13 sec et's

First of all, I *never* implied chipped or unchipped Audi/VWs are slow enough that I would win a race against on.

You were taken for a fool if you think a 1.8L Turbo A4, TT, MK4 GTI/Golf/Jetta is going to break that type of quarter mile time with just a chip. Not gonna happen my friend. And I happen to be a bit of a VW/Audi freak since I've owned quite a few. So you could take my word for it. I have several friends with modded 1.8L Jetta/GTI that do not run 13 sec anything. In fact I have a friend that lives in Virginia that has a highly modified 2002 (180bhp version) VW GTI 1.8L Turbo with chip, dp, exhaust, racing clutch, dv and on coilovers he's able to hit anywhere from 14.5-15.1 in the quarter mile. He's a very experienced driver. And while his car isn't shocking at the drag strip, where it really shines (as well as other modified/chipped 1.8t's) is on the freeway. However, Upgrade to a bigger turbo/ Stage III and you'll see high 13's.

Another thing to consider with a chip upgrade is not only the warranty you void (big deal, right?) but the extreme increase in power/torque is murder on the Audi/VW transmission. I never doubt the speed of a chipped 1.8T, but I'm sure as hell not going to sit by and allow misinformation to trickle through a topic I have first hand experience with.
