Drive light burnt?
Has anyone ever heard of this problem? I've seen this on a 1996 Honda Civic, as well as my sister's 1996 Integra. On both these auto cars, on the dash/where the gauges are, where it shows what gear you're currently in, P, R, N, D3, D2, D1 all light up, except D4 (small green square which should light up around "D4") does not. I can't figure out if it's just a small bulb, or some electronic problem? It's weird since i've seen the exact same problem on a Civic of the same year (a friend's car).
Also, the shifter doesn't light up either. I took it to a mechanic, he opened it up and replaced the bulb, but it didn't make a difference. All it did was mess up the alarm, where the panic button (the third button on the Acura alarm) doesn't make the car honk anymore, and now, the alarm sometimes doesn't de-activate and instead the taillights continue to flash when you turn off the car...?
Any ideas?

Sound like your mechanic is not to good with electrical issues.
One: the D4 in your dash, is a single bulb which I have herd costs about $15 bucks to replace. Mine went out on both tegs i ownd and on my sisters in laws also. Here is what i did. Take out the insturment cluster (look for a DIY thread on installing gauges). Then take the bulb from the D1 out and replace it with the D4. When was the last time you had it in D1? So no biggie on having the burnt one in D1.
Second: if your shifter bulb was out then change the bulb if that wont work, try a different bulb since these bulbs are a two pack 99% of the time when bought at an auto parts store. Then also try taking a volt meter and seeing if there is even power coming to the socket. If not then start looking at yr fuse boxes for a blown fuse.
Ask you mechanic what he fawked with in your car, and put it back to normal

umm the d4 is a small bulb... my d3 doesnt work haha.. just unscrew it and discount the wires in the back.. just twist the bulb off.. pretty easy.. dunno about the shifter lights tho.. might be an electrical problem.. or a blown fuse
sadly i know this cuz im an AT :happysad:

Thanks for the info.
I've been looking for these bulbs now (i don't mind spending the $15ish if it'll mean no burnt bulbs), but I can't seem to find it anywhere!!
And by the way, the mechanic denies having touched anything that would mess up the alarm... safe to say he won't my mechanic much longer!

My friend recently noticed the D4 on his Civic (which never worked since he bought his used car) suddenly works now...
No idea what's up with that light..
