Default Brake Rotor Question

How important is it to use the 2 set screws that hold the rotors on? I just did the front pads and rotors on my teg and on both sides of the car the 2 screws that hold the rotors on were all rusted and stripped. So i had to fight like a bitch to get the rotors off and had to reassemble everything w/out the screws. I was told by a friend that you really dont need the screws. Anyone know if this is true?

If it came from the factory with it, use it. Dont ghetto-rig stuff together. It'll catch up to you in the long run.

I had the same problem. I just went to the hardware store a picked up some stainless bots to replace the ones I had to drill out.

Technically you dont need them, but honda put them there for a reason, so get some new ones. Use an impact driver so they dont strip out. Make sure you torque your lugnuts down to exactly 80 foot lbs, in a X-pattern. Improper torquing of lugnuts is the number one cause of rotor warpage.

Warped the rotors on my old pathfinder because the jackasses at the auto shop torqued it down so hard I had to jump on a wrench 3 feet long just to break them loose.

You don't need those little rotor mount screws.

Yes, Honda put them there for a reason. They hold the rotor onto the hub during assembly, so they don't fall off while they install the calipers & the wheels.

The lug nuts hold the rotors in place for real. Those little screws sure aren't strong enough to do the job themselves...
