Default Next mods...

So I got a 16.1 with intake, clutch, flywheel. I only ran twice and I know I can get a 15.9 with better driving. So my goal is low-mid 15's. The next mod I want is a Greddy MX exhaust ($470).

After that I'm debating on what to get next. A header seems logical but its upwards of $400 for a good stainless steel one, and an intake manifold, I believe, puts out a little more power for just $280 (Skunk2). Also, a decent bored out throttle body (JG edelbrock/ STR), can add 5-7 horsepower, and its $380 I believe for a 70mm one (less for 65 mm, 60mm etc).

So my question is what should I get next after the exhaust to fulfill my mid 15's time goal? And don't just say everything, because I have a budget and am trying to get whatever possible during the summer.

So please just list in order what you think I should do, and if a throttle body, list what size, etc etc. I just want a good idea of what everyone thinks I should do. Thanks.

-Mike

I'd go header, then cams/camgears with tuning, but that would be the expensive route

But I think that better headers should be your next investment, then maybe a high-flow cat? a good high-flow cat can be pretty damn cheap...

Though, honestly I don't know the best course for a gen 2 non-VTEC. I've got a GS-R and all I know is to get that exhaust out as fast as possible

How many headers does your car have? I'd go with a good header and possibly high flow cat to complete the airflow part of the engine.
Adding those two to your current list will give your engine a good air base to work off of. Next it would be good to get some semi-aggressive cams, or an intake mani + throttle body and more aggressive cams.

Short answer: I vote header.

Intake Manifold will actually raise your 60' times because your engine will be bogging, due to less air velocity into the cylinders. Unless you have a turbo or more aggressive cams, don't invest in an intake manifold or throttle-body. Just work on your launch. Tweak the tire pressure so you can get better traction out of the holeshot.

A header would be my next move along with a hi-flow cat.

I would not worry about a throttle body for now. Personally I don't think they're going to do a whole lot, and for the price that they cost, its too much to hardly get any power. And if you were to get one, a 70mm is way to big unless you are pushing a lot of power. I'm pretty sure Edelbrock makes a 65mm TB which would be fine I would say. But I wouldn't go with the TB untill later.

Do what some of the others said. Buy a good header, get the Greddy exhaust, and then a straight cat and some good driving you will come pretty close to mid 15's I think. I would also look into getting that Skunk2 IM, it helped my gsr out a lot in the top end.

Huh, the IM helped me out quite a bit. But I'm about to install some Skunk2 cams here, so thats mainly the reason why I got it so it would help out as well.

intake manifolds will only help in the higher RPMs, they will reduce your low end power/torque.

Hmm, well I'm going for exhaust first most definitely.

I suppose a header next, from what you guys said. I don't see why a better Intake manny wouldn't help my 1/4 mile times. High end power is definitely what I need more of and I can do fine with my 60 ft times with some good driving and my clutch

So does this sound good?

1. Greddy MX exhaust
2. Good header (DC Sports/ Greddy)
3. High Flow Cat
4. Intake Manifold (maybe...in the future..)

I think I can hit a 15.5 with 1, 2 & 3, and with lowering tire pressure to the 20's plus getting my 60 ft down to a solid, low 2.2x.

Anyways, thanks everyone for the posts, they were very useful!
If you have anything else, I'm still listening.

That sounds like a good setup. The IM definetly helped me out in my G3 gsr is all I can say. Yes it was all high end power, but it was worth sacrificing the low end. I took off quite a bit on my ET.

Isn't a Type R intake manifold very similar the the Skunk2? If so, will it bolt right up to my B18A engine? If it does, I can probably get it cheaper than the Skunk2...
