This might be a dumb question...
Is an itr muffler the same as gsr or ls muffler?
I think I remember reading that they were different, but I don't remember.
Also, which of the exhausts mentioned above are the quitest?
My friend has a thermal on his prelude vtec and it seems decent.

so which would be a quiter and most efficient(horsepower) low end to mid range combination of header and exhaust? comptech,dc sports, apexi or Greddy? and what model?

way too many choices out there and i dont know which one would look best on the teg.

Also there are one piece 4-2-1 and two piece 4-2-1 header, whats the difference? and which one is better?

1. Anything stainless, imho.

2. A one piece is one piece, a two piece is two pieces.

Personally I would just get both a DC Sports stainless header and exhaust, because I like stainless and for an LS I wouldn't bother to pay the extra for Comptech stuff.

another thing, why is a cat back better than just replacing the muffler on the stock piping? What so different about pipes? Also on a catback are there any resonators and any other things that maybe on the stock exhaust system? If there are no resonators then would it not be louder than just putting a muffler on the stock pipes which has the resonators on it? Sorry I know its again a newbie question.

What is Mandrel tubing and straight through flow design?

Afternarket catbacks tend to be designed with performance, efficieny, and sometimes even sound projection

Anyways, stock exhausts tend to be made with sound supression and warranty in mind.

They can also have different bends (my GReddy has 115 degree bends, not 90 as with stock), be made out of higher grade steel (Or aluminized steel sometimes. If they salt the roads where you live or if you're really close to the beach, avoid alminized steel like the plague. Still can't understand why GReddy uses aluminized steel over stainless... lighter maybe?), more optimum placement of the resonators.. etc.

Catbacks eliminate problems with restrictive piping, can position resonatorss to work best with the muffler, and a bunch of other stuff that make the exhaust system work better together.

Mandrel bends= Bends in tubing that do not compress the tube. Normally you have to pinch the tube and reduce the diameter of the pipe when you bend it, but Mandrel bending eliminates any "crunches" in the pipes.

Stock muffles are "baffle" designs, that are like a maze for sound waves (Like if you sawed your stock muffler in half it would have a whole bunch of weird metal plates that catch the sound). Straight through mufflers dont place anything in the flow of the air, but due to the nature of sound waves, catch them as they flow by.

I hope that made sense.... I've been typing all day

Catback exhausts have larger diameter piping as well.
