i answered the student question because i am still a student so yes i am and i am under 21st century or 20th or whatever century it is i'm 17 years old if that helps any

I didn't mention it 'cause someone already answered it correctly.

Both my kids are on our family policy and both are getting good-student discounts. Even though one is in college, it still works.

Still, it depends on how YOUR insurance company decides to do it. So you still gotta make the phone call & find out for yourself.

If you are stupid enough to hurt someone with your car, and get sued for more than your insurance is worth, your parents could lose their home & lots more. They may want you on a separate policy to protect themselves from that. OTOH, some states laws are set up so that doesn't protect them anyway.

Like I said, each state has different laws & each insurance company has different ways of doing business.

Actually Jim, if your kids are insured under their own policy and live at home, you can still be sued. So that doesn't matter one way or another. The way to make things better is to get extra liability on the policy such as a 1 million dollar policy. Then you'll be protected.
