Default Gsr Turbo Vs. Ls #2

I dont really want to start this argument up again, but i have been reading alot on these two setups...

The main argument of the other thread was that u can boost a GSR and an LS both at 8psi, and the GSR will always make more power. but straight up... what is the max psi each can handle on stock internals? because if the LS can handle more psi (having a lower compression ratio and no vtec), then wouldnt it be better?

For the same amount of boost, the GSR motor will always make more power. So even though the LS motor can handle more boost before it blows up, the extra boost is only compensating for the fact that the LS motor makes less power with that boost.

so basically your saying that thier both even before they blow up.(with the LS on a little more boost) thus making sense that the GSR would be kind of a waste of money if ur going turbo?

With a totally stock LS block you can probably make 230 or so safe whp with a turbo, maybe a little more. On the other hand a GSR running 8 psi will easily put down 260 to the wheel. The GSR head flows more than the LS head, and VTEC helps make the turbo even more happy.

If you want to just make 230 whp, then an LS will be fine. If you want to make more than that, then you need to get a GSR.

a ls block can make a lot more power than 230whp on stock internals.

I dont want to get involved in this again...

A GSR motor has more potential to make power with a turbo than an LS. Period.

If you want to theoretically assume that the LS can "take" higher boost, the GSR will still make more power PER PSI. Now, if your LS @ 11PSI on stock internals makes 250/200, thats terrific. You can get a GSR and run 7-8PSI and make at least that amount of power. If you want to make things interesting and tune for 10+PSI, you can make 300whp depending on tuning. Show me a stock block 300whp LS @ under 12PSI.

Any argument about a GSR having "weaker" internals or too high compression blah blah blah is nonsense.

A boosted LS is probably "easier" to tune. However, if you're basing a modification by that criteria, I suggest you find a competent tuner and then go from there.

This last statement is going to bring a whole slew of flames...but for most applications, a GSR is a better platform to start with IMO. Note the "IMO". This is not fact, it is an opinion.

i still think we need to find that guy who was running 12 psi in his gs-r on stock internals.

shingo- it just seems more "practical" to boost the LS because it was not made with vtec. i dont think honda ment for the vtec and turbo to work together. IMO it just doesnt seem like it

VTEC + Turbo = Power.

Who says VTEC "doesnt like" turbos?
