Help Please!!!Shifting problems with GSR!
Hi guys Im a newbie and Im having problems with my 97 Gsr. After 5000 Rpms or 80 mph it wont go into 5th gear and its making me  !! Does anybody else have the same problem with their GSR or do I need to go get it it checked out? Oh by the way its still stock mods will be on shortly. Any info will help thanks in advance.
How many miles?
Hrm... happened to me right before my clutch went out
Anyways, what I used to do when it would have a hard time either shifting into fifth or when it would grind really badly, I would depress the clutch all the way down, and let the RPMs settle to less than 2K... it would shift smoothly at that RPM. Then I would give it gas, rev match to what it should be for freeway speeds at that gear, and let out the clutch. Worked for me for about 3 weeks, then the clutch died.
It might be good to have it checked out.

check your fluid level.
i knew a friend with a problematic eclipse that had the same problem as you. he quickly remedied the problem when he added more fluid to the clutch reservoir.
it could also be a clutch going out on you. 53k miles is low for a clutch to go out, but its definitely possible.

Well, "clutch going out" would be an inappropirate description for what happened to me. The fingers on my pressure plate started getting warped and would make continued contact with clutch disc even while the clutch pedal was depressed. Eventually one finger snapped off and tore up most eveything down there
But yeah, the fluid could be your best bet. Also, could a shady clutch master/slave cylinder cause this? I'd be curious if it could...

Like Epoch, when my clutch finally went [at 96K], it was as a result of warped pressure plate fingers that refused to let the friction disk pull away squarely from the flywheel surface- a section of clutch disk continued to make contact.
This symptom was indicated by a very faint clacking noise when declutching- that increased and decreased with revs- shortly before the shifting between all gears became very difficult.
The fact that this only happening shifting in and out of fifth seems kinda weird. I'd check fluid level too. If the master cylinder seals were failing, I think you'd have this problem with all shifts IMO.
Anyway, my two cents.
