Well, "clutch going out" would be an inappropirate description for what happened to me. The fingers on my pressure plate started getting warped and would make continued contact with clutch disc even while the clutch pedal was depressed. Eventually one finger snapped off and tore up most eveything down there

But yeah, the fluid could be your best bet. Also, could a shady clutch master/slave cylinder cause this? I'd be curious if it could...
