Which lightweight flywheel?
It's aluminum. And yes it stands up to power and high rpms well...my roommate has taken his to 9500 regularly.

Well I ended up buying a clutchmasters stage 3 clutch. I still need a flywheel though. Can I still get a light weight flywheel? I was told I still can. Probably going to get the prolite or Fidanza.

First off, Ive seen Fidanzas for $269 shipped. Around ACT pricerange. Second, how specifically is the Fidanza not worth the extra $100? Why exactly isnt the ACT the best choice...what makes you say Fidanza is worth any amount of money over the ACT? And who says Toda is the best???
What Im getting at here guys is that if youre going to post something, PLEASE post FACTS and REASONS supporting your statement. Not just a blatant opinion or recommendation based on nothing, or based on something that you think you kinda maybe might know. Thats not good enough. And if you arent sure, just say you arent sure.

And if YOU don't have an aftermarket clutch or lightened flywheel, I believe YOU are the one who needs to give facts, because YOUR opinions on the issue become worthless, except what you have heard from your buddies. I have one, therefore my OPINION counts. I know firsthand how much it affects the performance of an Integra.
And I am not sure how much the Fidanza is better than the ACT or vice versa, but I don't believe its worth spending that extra money on. The truth is, and anyone can try and prove me wrong, that the difference in power you gain (release) in any of the 7/8 lb flywheels will be negligible. The designs of them all are pretty damn similar.
Anyway, I feel its easy for someone to say "Post Facts!! Not Opinions!!" when they are not stating "facts" themselves...merely criticizing others opinions.
luderage,
nick (newgsrdriver) knows a hell of a lot more than you do, i'm sure, so i'd back off if i were you. i know for a fact that everything he states is NOT based on opinion, but based on his experience and know-how.
besides, most of what you say on this forum i have to take with a grain of salt..

Damn, I didn't know that. No wonder your car pulls harder than mine when you downshift.

I actually prefer chromoly flywheels. Maybe its just the strength of it that really appeals to me. My car is boosted and I run it pretty hard, so with lots of torque and heat, aluminum will eventually warp. With a quality made chromoly fw you shouldnt have to worry about the starter chewing up the teeth on it. I think only jun and spoon had this problem. Some good chromoly fw's are comptechs, todas, and exedys.
Youre an idiot.
Not only have I driven with these brands, I sold each and every one of them, holding them in my hands. Fidanza flywheels, ACT clutches, Clutchmasters, etc...Ive physically inspected each and every one of them with my own eyes and hands. Ive researched these flywheels to know what to say and how to answer questions thats customers ask me when deciding on the product that they want.
A lightweight flywheels "lightweight" properties are dependent on exactly WHERE the weight is taken from. You can have a 12lb flywheel that was incorrectly resurfaced or designed and have it make absolutely ZERO difference from that same 17lb stock flywheel. Many times manufacturers eliminate weight from the entire surface of the flywheel. Some material is needed on the clutch face area...this is where resurfacing a flywheel "too much" can become a problem, when there isnt enough material left on.
In contrast, much of the weight should be removed from the outer edge of the flywheel to maximize the reduction of inertia. Designing a flywheel with proper weight distribution to maintain durability while reducing the most intertia is critical...Fidanza and Toda both design their flywheels with this in mind.
The type of fasteners used in the flywheels are also important. Fidanza uses aerospace fasteners for example...very strong.
Ive seen all sorts of crap no-name cheap products that are just a lightweight version of a stock unit with no engineering involved, or using cheaper grade products.
See, these are all FACTS that you can use to support your argument. I just presented to you WHY one flywheel may be better than the other. I already stated I dont have much experience with the ACT flywheels, but from what Ive seen, they look good.
So we now see, my opinions arent worthless? Theyre not just from my buddies who have them. And they are based more on FACT and what Ive EXPERIENCED and LEARNED rather than just what I think I know "because I have a Fidanza and like how it revs faster." Just as you posted about Toda based on your mechanics recommendation, youre giving a recommendation based on NO experience other than word of mouth. My friend, I believe you have defined yourself as a hypocrite.
Case in point:
"The designs of them are all pretty similar" - is that based on you comparing them first hand, or an assumption?
"Im not sure how much better the Fidanza is over the ACT, but I dont think its worth the extra money" - So, based on your admitted lack of knowledge on the subject, how can you make that statement?
Should I continue?
Everything you say in a discussion has a factual basis. Anything. If there are no facts, there is no point, and there is no discussion. Any point should have facts to back it up. Did I clear that up for you?
