Default Tail Light Problems

Hello Fellow Users,

I have a question about my tail light.

Okay, when I turn my lights on both left and right tail lights work just fine.

But when i hit my breaks, my left tail light works fine, however the right side turns off and does not work. Now, is there a problem with the wirng or do i just need a new bulb or something else?

Mind you I have tried new bulbs!!!

Let me know thanks

perhaps you have a short somewhere. have you replaced or removed and reinstalled your taillights recently? perhaps a wire was pinched and is shorting. check your wiring.

Well I did not replace my tail lights period. It just stopped working. Where do you think the short is happening? Do you think it could be the socket itself? It does have a little rust in it.

Thanks for the info by the way much appreciated!

If I remember correctly a friend of mine had a similar problem with his car and he had to replace the bulb harness to fix it but this was on a different type of car also. Just throwing my .02 in.

are all the lights in that assy. going out? just wandering, sounds like a bulb prob. if just on one bulb i.e. brake or turn, i know the turn bulb is dual for marker light and then for turn, i cant remember if brake light also dual for marker? then you have the back up(single fill) and the outer marker(single fill) does the prob. happen all the time, if it is all lights inop? i.e. in reverse do all lights work while applying brakes ? you might be able to single it out if you think about what is working and when or when not it's doing so

Well all the lights on the right assembly work however when I brake only one of them shuts off. So what I also tried was switching the light bulb from the left (which works when I both brake and don't brake) to the right and vice versa and the same thing. So I don't think it's the light bulbs.

I think it could be the actual light bulb socket. What do you think?
Yes the bulbs are dual filament.

sounds like it, is it coroded badly? or is pigtail to socket loose, you can take a test light and probe it with and without the brakes applied to make sure power is coming through it
