Default Trouble getting into 1st gear

I noticed that the shifter on my GS-R won't go into first easily. Most of the time I have to double clutch it when I'm at a stop light. I noticed the same thing on my friend's 98 Geeser. I was wondering if it was like that for all GS-Rs or something.

That happens to me too sometimes, I just push harder and hold it to the left a bit more ( the shifter, you pervert)

The shifter gates are real small on all honda manual transmissions to prevent u from downshifting to first. also keep in mind that your first gear is connected to reverse somehow inside your transmission....i dont kno the exact names or whatever...but i kno it has something to do with the input/output shafts in there

think of how reverse is hard to get into, to prevent u from going into reverse gear while in forward motion. its the same principle for first gear....so i'm told...i think i'm repeating stuff i vaguely remember from an old post

when you're slowing down, try and put it into 2nd and then first..it usually goes in smooth when i do it that way

It's not ideal to put it in first when you're still rolling anyway. Just like reverse (as someone stated), which is why it's hard as hell to get it to go in -- and why you're double clutching, because the engine speed is going too quickly for the gear itself and there's no synchro on first. (If im correct).

So, go into first *after* you stop.
