Default rewiring headlights

Hi, I have a 90 integra ls and I have the JDM headlights but the light is so dim that I have my high beams on at all times. When I put them on, I cut off the little black box that the 9004's connected to and put the H4 boxes on and connected the wires with spade connectors. I was going to get new bulbs but my friend rewired his headlights and they were like twice as bright. Should I look into getting them rewired?

Well, my friend replaced all the old wiring that went to his headlights with bigger wire and the lights were a lot brighter. Should I take off all the old headlight wiring and use bigger wire?

My headlights Get dimmer when my engine goes back down to idle, and when I rev it they get a little brighter. At first, I thought it might be the alternator, but I had it checked and it was working fine. I also have a new battery. Anything would be great.
