Clutch
My clutch has been grabbing at different places on a random basis. Now today sometimes when I push the clutch all the way in it doesn't disengage. Sometimes the clutch grabs way at the bottom by the floor but most of the time it grabs around the top like normal. Also sometimes when I start out in 1st gear the car will shake really bad while the clutch is being engaged. I checked the fluid and it seems to be normal. Please help with any info you might have.
It sounds like a problem with the hydraulic system is more likely than anything within the clutch itself being messed up. Replace the fluid and bleed the system, see if that fixes the problem. If not, your slave cylinder might be going.
I think my clutch is gone or something..my 90 has 140 k and that lil clutch just grabs whenever it pleases. I mean, like everytime I go from 1st it will start out slow than when I try to release the clutch a little it lets out alot and my car jumps forward really fast than 2nd it does it a little...to counteract it I have to feather the clutch or try to but it always seems to jump in first (or else I get a major workout on my left calf muscle). I'm gonna need to replace the clutch and all soon I think...
...by the way, whats the cost for a new clutch and any other transmission parts that may go bad? (ie. pressure plate? slave cylinder? etc. etc.) And would it be cheaper to get a factory clutch or buy an aftermarket clutch kit??

Hey there,
I have the same problem you do. I drive a 97 GS-R with 110k KM's. I just had my clutch replaced at 90,000k, along with the throwout bearing and had my flywheel machined (however im not sure if all of this was done, the shop turned out to be sort of shady)
Anyways, I experience EXACTLY the symptoms you do, and i really want to fix it as well..
On a side note, i get horrible grindy sounds out of my transmission, esp when gearing down.. not a real TAPPY grind like when you mis shift a gear, just more of a muffled hum sort of grind. I have to take it in and find out whats going on. Im going to try replacing my tranny and clutch fluids and see if i cant get my cylinders/etc tested. its very frustrating for me because its hard to get used to where the engagement points are.
It seems also (not sure if its the same for you) that it has a very gradual, normal engagement when its cold out, and as the car warms up, it gets alot 'stickier' -- where you let it out and the clutch will almost SHOVE itself out really quick, and cause me to jerk on launches.
Not sure if its related, but if i'm cruising in say, 2nd gear at about 3000rpm or so, (ie regular middle-3/4 the way through a gear) and i let my foot OFF the gas, just entirely... Instead of gradually easing down and decellerating like a normal car would, mine lurches.
Maybe between the two of us we can come up with something.

i just had clutch installed and now its getting tough to engage and it is engaging higher than it was 3 weeks ago... and where it use to engage it stiffens up while releasing the clutch... weird **** im thinking master cylinder or maybe the shop screwed me over some how
lude rage just to let you know you dont have a hydrolic clutch unless the prior user converted it and i dont theink they would. Instead the clutch is moved by cables and the clutch hardly ever has any types of problems simply because it doesnt have many parts to wear out. Anyhow when you need a new clutch youll know it cause it will start slipping in like 5th or 4th gears when you floor it.
