What did you mean w/ "But this issue usually comes up with supercharging."?

I didn't quite follow that sentence.

Let's keep it to the topic.

In the most general sense, adding a turbo to any motor is going to introduce more heat and cause higher output which increases wear.

You can make a reliable turbo motor, but yeah. I would say that this thread is a very general question.

i had previously had a turbo ls motor...after blowing that one i had an option of buying another ls motor or getting the b16a for 50 bux more..smaller engine with vtec...when ur boosting and vtec kicks in on the highway theres nothing like it, it jus pulls hard..but i went to a smaller engine so im experiencing some problems with torque but if u decide to go with the gsr u should be fine =)
hope it helps

sorry for straying off topic again but DSM is diamond sport motors which means parts manufactured by the joint between chrysler and mitsubishi. the earlier eclipse talons and lasers actually had the 3 letters DSM in the engine bay (1991-1995) which is where the name originated, even though they are absent from the later models the same 3 cars still are considered "DSMS". the 3Ss are badass cars, just not DSMs.

back on topic, what is the maximum amount of boost that stock internals on a gsr will allow? 6-7?

according to Corkey Bell (author of maximum boost)
"Certainly a turbo will affect engine wear...If you drive vigorously but with some respect for the equipment, you can expect about 90% of normal engine life."
Basically the more power you have the more wear and tear you put on the motor. With a turbo setup you most likely wont be in full boost at all times. A turbo is only going to give you full boost under heavy acceleration. For example My GSR revs at about 4000 rpm at 80 mph with no turbo. If i had turbo im pretty sure that i could still go 80mph at 4000rpm without reaching full boost. So a turbo isnt always putting very much wear on your motor, only when you are driving hard.
(corect me if im wrong i havnt quite finished "Maximum Boost" yet )

there is really no right answer to this question, because it all depends on how you tune your setup. With forced induction, tuning is the most important thing you can do. I would say with minimal tuning anywhere from 6-8 would be acheivable for a reliable setup.
