Default Idle issue

94 b18b1 and i have it idling funny, when it is cold it starts to jump and drop. what to do? I had the pump and timming belt changed but it is still doing it. a friend had adjusted the throttle position sen. (with the tap of a hammer) and it went away, than it came back when the engine warmed up, he said to tap it the other way and play with it, now it sounds good warmed up but back to the cold idle?????

Check your throttle body to make sure that the air passages are cleaned right. Also it makes sense to see if there are any vacuum leaks within the system itself.

Sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve.

Refer to this article for removal and cleaning.

my car idles at 1-1.5k rpm when dead cold, when warmed its about 500, as far as i have seen, that is how the car has always been, is it roaming on you like goes up to 1k and then back down? or just sits around 1k until it warms and jumps back down?

There are several topics posted on this issue. Search around on here and see what works. Could be the IAC, FITV, air in the cooling system....it goes on.

dead cold it goes up to 2100, then when it drops to 1500 it startes to jump. but when it goes to operating temp it sounds fine. my friend would tweek the tps and it will go the opposite cold start will be fine and when warm it jumps. I will try cleaning the FITV, as for the IACV i need to find it. thanxs
