Default What shocks to get if I don't know what springs are on the car?

I need new shocks. The ones on my GSR now are the stock ones, and they're blown and creaking and squeaking.

I've looked at a lot of different shocks, and read through the FAQ.

The previous owner does not know what kind of springs are on the car...

Does it matter what kind of shocks I get? I was looking at a set of Skunk2's for a little under $300 shipped.

Its always better to get a matched spring/shock set. The nasty ride and noises can also be coming from the mystery brand name springs. I wouldnt buy new shocks without a known set of springs.

I'm probably going to do that.

I need to get the car painted, that's first on the list, and that's happening this week, or next week. When ever my lazy ass gets to prepping it.

I looked at these: http://www.modacar.com/products/Acur...+Package+.html

$410 isn't bad, but I'm not sure if 1.5" is enough of a drop for my liking.

experience has told me that tokico blues dont last very long, even with just a mild lowering.

Hmmm... That's probably why the Koni Yellows with (I think) Eibach Sportlines are about $750?

How's Skunk 2? I looked at a set of shocks for $280 on eBay.

I dont know anyone who's used the Skunk2 replacement shocks, so I cant help you there.

Have you looked into the KYB AGX line of products? I've had firsthand experience with my first teg and they were great. I also have a set of KYB GR2's in my 240sx with Tein S-Techs, and I'm pretty satisfied with that setup as well.

The AGX's didnt drop my car at all, the spring perches are at the same location as the stock ones. They're shocks only.

I dont know what the going rate is on them now, but I remember 350 shipped being the norm.

Ah, what I meant to say is what ones can handle what drop? I'll probably get a set of those, and a set of springs.

AGX can handle up to 1.5" drop. If you lower it more, your warranty becomes void. I had KYB AGXs with S-Techs dropped 2". No complaints.
