Default Changing own head gasket?

Is it worth changing your own head gasket on a 94 GSR or is it a real pain in the ass, How much does it usually cost at a garage to get it done?

get yourself a helmes manual, and do it yourself. it should only take you a couple hours. but make sure you have a torque wrench that is in good calibration.

you will get charged about 2-3 hours labor plus parts at a shop. that would be around $250-$300.

i think you're making it sound easier than it actually is. 1st, there's a chance the head might need to be resurfaced. 2nd, you have to make sure that you unbolt and bolt everything in the right order and torque it down correctly otherwise you might warp the head. 3rd, you have to undo the timing belt and all to do this job.

i don't recommend that the average joe take on this job on their own.. especially if they have experience doing just simple things like oil changes and brakes..

doing the head gasket is major work, if you had to ask if itll be ok to do it yourself, its probably not.

true. we did it on my friends teg. it just seemed tedious, not hard, to us. but thinking about it, i would not do it unless you had a thorough understanding of you tegs engine.

I've done a couple headgaskets and I'm far from ASE certified. Lol.

Then again, I have done my 12:1 LS/VTEC swap by myself too.

Only thing that sucked was the Clutchmaster's stage 3.

Anyhow, I would say go for it go buy a manual and follow it and you will have no problems.
