Nitrous/Alcohol ??
I was thinking about this concept, all though I'm sure many people have already done it. My buddy has a maxima that has close to 400 flywheel hp, and one of the things that he uses is a special setup that sprays fine mist alcohol directly into the intake manifold to cool the air down really fast (as you guys know, colder air= more dense air).......At first I was thinking that it would be complicated to set this up...but then it hit me....why not just use a direct port nitrous setup, and replace the nitrous with alcohol ? This way have a system that increases your performance considerably, but at the same time, isn't as potentially harmful to your engine as nitrous . Have you guys ever heard of anyone doing this before ? Do you guys think that this would work ? What kind of hp gains do you think it would create ?
i would not recomend it eclipsespanker. my buddy has a cavalier and we rigged it up with the alcohol and it worked at first, but then about a month later he blew his motor(chevy sucks). Maybe we set it up wrong but it was the same concept you are talking about. PLEASE dont kill a kick butt gsr think about what your about to do. Remember its a integra not a civic keep it clean

Ethanol alcohol is a common additive in gasoline. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's a substitute for octane. It prevents detonation in that way. It also burns cleaner. However, it's not as powerful as octane. [/QUOTE
Octane is more powerful, but i meant using it as an air cooling agent, not as a substitute for gas......

I would think nitrous/aquamist system would do a better job of cooling down your car...what's your physical reasoning behind using alcohol? Eventually when our petroleum supplies run out (+- 50 years) we may turn to alcohol as a substitute fuel (Buddy of mine at Cornell was part of the team that created a SUV that ran on alcohol). But I'm still not sure why you would use alcohol over the existing systems that are out there. Plus, water is slightly cheaper than alky
