Which Tranny Fluid (did search)
I'm in need of a tranny fluid change, but dont know what to get, because of a number of factors...
a. i hear that non motor oil type fluid kills B-series trannies
b. only honda mtf is recommended from factory
c. i've heard many gooood opinions on Redline and Royal purple fluids
I'd like to go for the Royal Purple, because i felt it in my friend's Rx7, before and after, and it was a HUGE difference in smoothness, and engagement. The problem is that Royal Purple is hard to find, and I dont know if they offer a Honda compatible fluid weight. Any help is apreciated....thanks in advance

Honda used to reccomend plain ole 10W30 in their shop manuals. My '92 Helms manual says to do just that. Then around '96 or '97 they started selling Honda MTF and voila, the newer manuals magically all say to use Honda MTF. 
You can also use Red Line MTL. Not sure about Royal Purple or if they have a compatible oil. Basically if you find anything that's roughly equivalent to 10W30 it should be fine.

The helms I have in my LS says very clearly..
Use regular motor oil only as a temporary solution.
It doesnt have the correct additives to ensure proper lubrication/protection. (or so it says)
Use what the manual says.
Honda MTF
about 2.6qt's of it

I've had 10W30 oil in the tranny and didn't like the shift feel.
Later I put in synthetic 10W40 and still didn't like it, so I eventually switched back to Honda MTF :thumbup: and it seems to work the best (from what I have tried) so that's what I'd recommend.

Plain ole moter oil will do in a pinch. But the tranny has a tendency to whine. So Honda came up with thier MTF. It has additives that prevent the whine from occuring. And better protect/lubricate.

Redline MTL is better than the Honda MTF. It is synthetic, so less prone to oxidation, (wearing out) and will show more consistent viscosity over range of temps. I switched at first fluid change at 30K miles and noticed much smoother shifting. It is $$, but what else are you going to spend your money on if not your car?
