Bought a CAi, no Im scared..
I just bought a Injen CAI for my LS and was reading about how much of a chance to flood was possible, and now i'm scared of putting it on..
And now I'm hearing that SRI are better anyway, I feel as though I just screwed myself (the intake was on clearance, no refunds) does anyone here use the bypass valve that supposedly saves your car from flooding? Or should I just try to sell this intake for like $50 and be out a ton of money on buying an SRI

You have 5 choices:
1) Sell it.
2) Buy a short ram or comptech icebox.
3) Leave it stock.
4) Put it on and don't drive through rivers on the road.
5) Put it on with a bypass.
I hydrolocked my 98 LS twice, both being my stupidity. Just use common sense when driving.

My dad's suggesting i cut a Juicy-Juice plastic container in half vertically and cut the funny shaped top part off, and somehow put it down in there, just under the intake, to where it still gets air from all around it, but I think that might make it a bit restricted... either way it goes on tonight :P i'll just get a valve later on!
Water hitting the filter is not a big deal. It is when it snorkels and the filter becomes immersed, that is when it sucks up enough water to actually drown out the motor. I have a CAI on my GSR. No bypass valve. I've driven in the rain and have had no issues. Maybe the rain situation is worse in Canada than CA, so cut the piping and make a short ram for the winter, buy a coupler and make it a CAI in the summer.

Hey! I'm proud to be an american! But if canada was farther south (i.e. warmer) id jump the fence without hesitation (been there, feels just like us anyway... only with funny money.....FREE HEALTHCARE FTW)

I thought about this but the end of the pipe where the filter goes on is lipped, so cutting it would produce a flat ended pipe, dunno if it's a big though..

cold air = lower (hence the name COLD AIR INTAKE)
short ram = hot engine air in ur intake ( maybe the humidity wuld cause unwanted moisture to seap into the engine somehow?)

buy a 2 piece intake if anything , screw cutting.

I'm not sure AEM makes 2-piece CAIs anymore...i could be wrong though.
Humidity going into the engine is not harmful in the slightest to the engine...it might reduce power ever so slightly, but it can't hurt it.
Most simple and safe solution: get an AEM bypass valve and never worry about a thing.
I never really understood why there's always so much debate over these topics...if you have a CAI and are worried at all about hydrolock, get a bypass valve and call it a day. Some people will claim it'll slightly hurt performance, but honestly, if you're able to notice such a slight difference in power, you'd be working on a whole different level on your car and you wouldn't be getting a CAI...
