Default please help fuel and head

okay took off the valve cover today and the inside of the head smells like there is gas in there cannot figure out why motor runs fine no problems, if someone could help me out that would be great.

If in fact there's gas in the oil, it must be getting by the piston rings.

Obviously they could be worn, or the liners themselves. Liners seems less likely, but to be honest both of those seems unlikely unless you're running a turbo and/or the car's been abused with regards to the oil level and quality.

If your car was running very rich there would be a greater amount to potentially make it's way past the rings, over time, even if they're not badly worn. Also could be leaking injectors.

For all I know though, you might have something like 400k on the thing h: which would account for at least a little wear on the rings
