New gsr ticking?
I just picked up a 95 gsr. The car will start and run just fine but the rpm's are in the 2k range on startup and will fluxiate between 2k-2500k until you put the car in gear and drive then at idle it will idle just fine. I also notice what sounds like a ticking noise from the head/lifters. Is this normal in these motors? It has 127k on it and runs great all stock. Just curious would like to do some preventive maintence so nothing major happens. What are some good mod's, I know your basic's like intake and exhaust i have a 02 wrx stg 2 just new to the honda/acura world. Anyway glad to own it and vtec is fun!
Judging by the miles, you're due for a valve lash adjustment.
Your motor has mechanical valve lash adjusters which require routine inspection/ maintenance.
You're also long overdue for timing belt replacement.
It's supposed to be done at 90K miles, so I would also recommend that you replace the timing belt, timing belt tensioner and water pump. Unless you have concrete proof that the belt was changed at or near 90K, this is your top priority.
If there's anything to be worried about, this is it. All of the B-series motors are interference design; if the belt snaps, pistons and valves will get into a shoving match, with your wallet as the loser.

word son. Good advice. Adjusting your valves is really easy just do a search on this forum or google and you can figure out how to do it with minimal tool cost. You can do the timing belt your self and is not hard, but if you haven't done them before, leave it to your mechanic. It will save you from pulling hair out of your head. Giggity giggity
