Default CAI in winter..

I live in Chicago.. and it gets pretty damn cold up here.

I put in my CAI this summer and I was wondering if it's safe to leave on in the winter time..

How would the car react to the extreme cold.. and about water freezing in the filter.. (if thats possible) would nothing get through intake because of blockage?

So should I leave it on.. or get a short for the winter time..?

I would take the whole thing off and put your stock intake back in, that's if you still have it.

One of my friends is doing this.

Don't some CAIs have two attached pipes so you can take off the extension and put the filter on one pipe to have like a short ram?

If you have a bypass valve on your AEM CAI, you can use it as a short ram in the winter. I didn't plan that when I cut my CAI to put the bypass valve on, but that is a good idea to cut it right at the point where the short ram would be.

Just put the bypass valve in and be done for both summer and winter.

It doesn't create a loss of horsepower either.
We've seen the dyno's of it with and without, nearly identical.
