Default 404s and tuning

I just installed my crower 404s today and had my gears set at 0,0 the idle was fine with that buut then i got anxious and adjusted my cam gears, i set them at intake- +3, exhaust- -2 after i did this, my car was faster but my idle was REALLY bad, i would have to keep my foot on the gas when i was stopped so that i wouldnt stall out. I dont have any money so i cant go to a dyno. I was wondering if any of you have the 404s and what you have thenm set at.

just set them a little more nonaggressively like intake +2 and exhaust -1 or maby back to 0'0 till you can find out what to set it at

Installing the dual valve springs and titanium retainers is the hardest part - the cams are easy (the springs are hard if you do it wothout taking off the head)

I bet that thing sounds niiiice at idle now with some niiice engine rumble?? I'm interested in cams. Except I'm looking into the Skunk2 stage2 cams. Those I know change the idle to about 1,500rpm or so. Just curious how you like your cams and did you feel a big difference and does the higher idle ever become a bothersome to you??? Skunk2 claims 20hp with the stage2 cams is that exaggerated or is it a reasonable number?? I'm just curious, and any information you could give me on cams would great. Thanks alot.

Skunk2 stage 2 cams are fine for idling, my roomate had them in his GSR. They were ok cams, nothing spectacular. They definitely take tuning on a dyno.

well i had my cams at +2 intake and -2 exhaust and walked on a 5gen prelude with bolt ons but i had REAL bad idle so today i set them at 0 exhaust and +2 intake to make the idle better and was dead even with a V6 eclipse until 4th when i started to pull ever so slightly. I thought that the prelude would be faster than the V6 or maybe it was my cam setting. who knows...............im gonna mess with it tomorrow and see what happens.

I don't really have access to a dyno. Would I be able to get by with out tuning them? I was told that once I got the cams I would need to readjust the valvesprings. Is there anything else I would need to do? I definetly lack the knowledge on cams but I want to learn as much as I can on them before I get serious and purchase some. Oh and do the Skunk2 stage 2 cams really give you the 20hp that Skunk2 claims??? Would they be fine on an everyday driver?? I know they say they are for street/strip use, but would I be fine with them?? Whats the difference between Crower cams and Skunk2 cams??Diff. HP gains??Which are better?? Any comments would be helpful. Thanks

You don't need to readjust the valvesprings, but I hope you replaced them with aftermarket springs, and retainers. They are fine on a daily driver, the only thing is you can't separate the cam timings by more than 2 degrees, or the valves can come in contact with each other. The way they were tuned just being dropped in, they fell on their face in vtec. I'm sure with adjustable gears and a vafc, you could see 20 hp with dyno tuning.
