would new bushings also fix vibrations in the shift knob while in gear?

I experience a bit of sideways play while in gear also, is this what you guys are talking about?

Schwa:

New bushings would probably make the vibrations worse. Typically the aftermarket bushings are harder then the stock bushings, and thus they do not absorb as much of the vibration from the engine.

They should take that play out of your shifter though. They'll give you a more precise, tighter feel.

If your going to replace your brushings, I'd recommend you throw in a short shifter while you're at it, since you'll already have your linkage apart anyway.

There has been a lot of debate as to the effectiveness of a short throw shifter. Honestly I'm quite happy w/ the gsr shifter I have right now.
Very good point with the harder bushings though, never thought about that. Is it normal to have some sort of vibration while in gear though, or is this a sign of an issue?

My girlfriend's prelude is still ridiculously smooth and I cannot feel anything from the transmission when my hand is on the shift knob.

Vibration in the shifter is normal. It shouldn't be excessive, like if it's jumping all around then you have a problem. But a constant vibration is normal.

I understand you on the short shifter issue. I didn't notice a huge difference either when I changed mine out.

My brother has a prelude and I occasionally drive it. And I don't notice the vibrations as much in it either. Maybe they have softer bushings or it's just a different design.

yea..the preludes have a cable type set up while the tegs have the linkage set up....

the linkage set up is way heavier and is solid all the way from the tranny to the shifter and have no type of flexibility to absorb and get rid of vibration
cables are flexible and could absorb vibration as we all know. the lude has this type set up so imo this is why theres no vibration...

about the short shifter..i love mine...it helps a lot if u speed shift and all that good stuff...

and about the play on the shifter...if its a short shifter already you might need spacers w/ some washers...but if its the stock shifter then its your bushings..= ] good luck..

Thanks. I've never seen the bottom of a prelude so thanks for the heads up on how their shifter is set up. I'll be sure to take note of this the next time it's on stands.

Now can someone recommend a good online store to get those shifter bushings?

Also, do you guys need to remove the pipe coming off the header (A-Pipe?)to install?
