Default Tire question

OK what exactly do the numbers on tires mean? I am looking at either the Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712 205/50/15 and Falken Azenis 205/50/15. I know the third # is rim size. What are the first two?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Is 40 a lower profile than 50?

yes

if you have 205/50/15, the width is 205 mm, the sidewall height is 50% of that, so about 103 mm. If you had 40 series tires the sidewall would be 82 mm. HTH

I wouldn't go for either then, I have heard they are not good for snow at all. That's why I haven't gotten them. I would have picked them up this summer but need to find all seasons since they are not ok for the snow.
