Default problem installing intake mani...

I have run into a problem while installing my new intake mani. It is a skunk2 type R style manifold. The car seems to be acting as if there is a vaccum leak somewhere. I replaced the manifold gasket. I did not replace the TB gasket...It was replaced about a month ago, but maybe it didnt seal right this time?? I have searched up and down for this leak. It does not seem to be coming from any vaccum lines. I have rechecked all the lines numerous times. I took off the IAC and checked the rubber o ring on it. It seems fine, but maybe if could be replaced?

Does anyone know any tricks to finding a vaccum leak?
Does anyone know of something i could be missing?

Take a can of carb cleaner and spray anywhere that there could potentially be a vacuum leak. If the motor dies or the idle stumbles after you spray it in, you have found the area of the leak.

OK....soooo...

It is not a vaccum leak. It is the sensors. There are 2 sensors on the throttle body. One is the MAP, and i forget what the other is (i have arrows pointing to them in my pic) Coming off of the harness, one connector is longer than the other (you can see in my pic...im holding it with my hand.)

When i had them plugged in the way it seemed to fit right...
which...in my diagram would be Blue toBlue and Green to Green.
The motor would jump up to around 4000, then fall down to about 2000, then would constantly go up and down between 2000 and 3000. I thought it was a vaccum leak causing this.

After spending a while trying to find the 'leak'...i unplugged the sensors. I plugged the Blue into Green, but couldnt plug the Green intoBlue because it would not reach.
After doing this...the motor settled down to 2000 and stayed there. It seemed a little unsteady (maybe because the other sensor wasn't plugged in?) but was not as uncomfortable as before.

Are these 2 supposed to be switched? The harness is caught up under the old manifold brace (which i have yet to remove)...so if i get it free im sure the Green connector will reach the Blue sensor. But before i go and do that i want to make sure this is even what im supposed to do.

An easy way i could have prevented this confusion was by marking the sensors so i knew which one went where...so, i guess this is what i get for disconnecting things without making sure i remember where they go.

...also...what about the other 2 sensors? One is on the IAC and the other is mounted on top of the manifold. It seems like there is really only one way those 2 will reach. I plugged the longer connector into the IAC to see what that would do and the motor settled down to about 1000, but again..seemed a little unsteady. but...there is no way in hell the shorter connector will reach to the top of the manifold.

I hope this description isnt TOO confusing. I tried to explain it as well as i could.

I need help with this ASAP...I need to get the car driveable again by tomorrow night.

THANKS!!

The plug with the Green,Yellow, and red Wires goes to the TPS sensor in the rear and the other to the map on top. Goodluck..

The sensor in your hand is for the MAP, which is on top of the TB. The other one plugs to the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) on the rear of the TB.

I also noticed - looking on top of the intake manifold you have the IAT (Intake Air Temp.) Sensor, when I installed mine I had to extend those wires. Yours looks to still be in the OEM harness, and I think the IAB sensor has the same type of clip. Might look into that as well.

Good Luck!

Maybe this will help:

one of the sensors plugs into the IACV and other plugs into the IAT on top of the manifold. They both reach ok for me.

The thing is...when i have all the sensors plugged in (MAP, TPS, IAT, and the IACV) the motor idles at 3000. When I unplug the IACV it goes down to 1000. If i take the IAT and plug it into the IAC, it also idles at 1000. But when I have the IACV plugged into the IACV it wants to idle at 3000.

So im really not sure what the problem is.

Leak at the IACV? Stuck/bad/dirty IACV? Does it stop when the engine is warmed up?

Do not go around switching the harness plugs into sensors they are not supposed to be hooked into. That is a great way to fry the ECU if you haven't done so already.
