Default Short Shifter

2 Questions: What is the true reasoning behind installing a short shifter? And what one do you reccomend?

Thanks!

1. to shorten the throws, obviously
2. stick with the stock one. it's short enough.

If you are hell bent on a short shifter, the skunk2 is the best choice, IMO. I have had mine for several years and it is a very solid piece.

Get some cheap bushing to go in at the same time. My ES bushings were like 10 bucks from suspension.com

Skunk2 is good, or the C's positional shifter is supposedly great. Circuit Hero also makes and extender do get the shifter closer to your wheel.

I purchased a Fidanza short shifter and it came complete with ball bearings. Someone cut my stock one off (dude that had it before me) and it felt weird to shift. I like the stock LS knob with the Fidanza, it's a comfortable position and I can shift pretty quick.

I have an edelbrock SS and it has worked very well for me and installed nicely. No problems, except for my own user head space.

I also bought the Fidanza short shifter using the stock knob. it wasn't hard to install and i haven't had any problems with it. Got it at www.horsepowerfreaks.com.

The first manual car I had (95 Civic Ex) came with a short shifter; it wasn't until I had my GSR that I noticed how long the throw is in the stock shifter, I just became accustomed to the short throws. The first thing I replaced was that shifter with this B&M short shifter for less than $45:

BUT, it wasn't until I purchased a weighted Skunk2 shift knob that I had the best shifting experience ever. I let my close friends drive my car, and they've all purchased this exact same setup. I think I've recommended this more than anything I've bought for my car.
B&M short shifter $45 + Skunk2 shift knob $55 = Awesome shifting experience.
