Default Temporary Fix

My a/c compressor is making a nasty grinding noise and is at its end, also it is rubbing something to burning point.. I would like to know, is there a way to make it not run when I start my car ?..

I am planning on gettin it fixed, but I need my car NOW so wondering, with out removing the entire set up, is ther a way that I can disable it temporarily?

Just cut the A/C belt off.

That is it ? Just chop off the belt.. Will that prevent the spinning of the pulley, because it is loose and grinding something

My question is why is the A/C engaging with the A/C off? Is it broken? If you want to disable it by cutting the belt but you may end up disabling other units that run off that belt. If I stand corrected the A/C pulley spins freely until it is engaged by turning the A/C on at which point a load is added. So the belt already runs through and by the A/C pulley, so cutting it is most likely going to disable other things the belt is associated with in addtion to the A/C unit.

Okay, well mine starts spinning as soon as the car is started. Uhm, Is there something I can unplug then to turn this off, and what is the association with it and other components ? Cause, I HAVE to drive it this week, and I do not yet have the means to replace it.. what can I do ?

All you need to do is take or cut the belt off, nothing is ran from that belt because that belt's purpose is to spin the a/c compressor. So, no harm in cutting it off, only down side is you need to buy another one to put on.

The clutch for the pulley is probebly frozen.

Okay, so cutting will stop the pulley from spinning ? because if not, it will still grind whatever it is grinding and still burn..

The compressor uses a clutch to engage. My bet is the clutch is worn and needs replacement. Only the A/C compressor runs off the A/C belt, so it is perfectly safe to cut it to temporarily fix the problem.

I would recommend fixing the compressor clutch before it gets too much warmer.
