Default Starter

So I'm thinking it might be my starter. I went to start my car yesterday morning and when i turned the key i only got a click. Got out and messed with the battery, nothing. Tried to jump start it and still nothing. My CD player says the battery has 11.7 v. So i don't think it's my battery. Do you guys think that it's the starter or something else. Thanks for any input.

Yup.....your starter's gone. Happened with my Accord, absolutely nothing but a "click". Replaced starter, everything is perfect.

OEM, aftermarket? Will one last longer than the other?

You can get a Life time warrenty start from autozone. The remanufactured starters from autozone will last anywhere from 2-3 years. If you don't mind unbolting it then these starters are okay (due to warrenty). If however, you don't want do deal with it, then go to napa or better parts stores.

It does sound like it is your starter, you can take it to Autozone and have them bench test it to make sure.

Yea I got mine from autozone and they gave me like ~$60 for bringing in my old one (core). Had it on my car for like 9 months before I sold my accord and never had a problem with it.

The battery should read 12.6 volts.

It may be (and sounds like it is) unrelated to your problem, but just something to keep in mind.

well since i first got my CD player it has been saying about 11.3 to 12.3 when off and anywhere from 12 to 14 when running. I was going to take it off tomorrow and take it to auto zone and have them check it. Thanks guys I'll let you know whats up.

Well i went to auto zone and they tested it 2 times and both failed. my dad wants me to take it apart and put more grease in it. Auto zone had a new one for $180 60 core charge.

yeah I would say if your battery is actually at 11.6 volts with no load it is probably only 10-20% charged. trust me I've worked with lead-acid batteries a lot. fully charged 12V battery will read 13V+. To double check it jump it but when you go to start it pull the + terminal all the way off your battery so it is running completely on the good battery. A dead battery will pull down a good battery. A lot of people assume that if you jump a dead battery it will instanly start, not really true.

Just make sure you never, never completely disconnect a running car from a battery, the alternator will send a big voltage spike through your system.

Well i put more grease in it and still nothing so i went and bought a new starter just put it in and it's running fine. So you think my battery is low? Its has to power my amp when I'm looking at the CD players battery power it was reading 12v with the car off. Thanks for the input guys.
