Default Resonation @ 3000 RPM

OK I have been having this weird problem for some time now and despite every attempt to isolate it I have been unsuccesfull so I am turning to the knowledge base here for some help. This has been happening for over a year and is more an annoyance than anything.

Every time I hit 3000 RPM when the engine is at normal operating temperatures I hear something vibrating. This does not happen when the engine is cold, only when it is warmed up and only happens at 3000 RPM. I do not feel anything when driving the car or have any vibrations in the steering wheel or elsewhere. If it were not for the fact I hear the vibration at 3000 RPM I would not know it was there as the car runs normal.

A little about the car...

If anyone has any ideas float me a bone...

    Thanks,

Does it sound like exhaust or heatshield rattling? There is a known problem with the A pipe on most GSR's that cause a rattling right around 3k rpm.

Schmoo, thanks for the link. From the sounds of it that seems to be it, the A-pipe. I checked the heat shields more than once so I would be suspect if it was them.

Now I have justification to get the I/H/C/E I want for the car...

3000rpm is resonance for a crapload of things on our cars. Most likely something the size and shape of a heat shield.

Yes, I recommend checking the tightness on all the heatshields, but it is most likely a cracked weld in the A-pipe. Back when my car was stock, it had the same problem.

I have checked them every time I do an oil change and they are fine.

if you've done that and still have the stock header, i put my money on the cracked weld in the a pipe.

Agreed...now it is time to get a new setup.

Been thinking about a JDM ITR 4-1 intake and an Apexi WS exhaust, just need a CAT.

you can have your stock cat modified with a 2.5'' collector flange but it wont be the nicest flowing thing
